New Press: I’m a Fashionista?!

This is the point where your jaw might drop. Mine’s sure been on the floor all weekend!

First, here’s a picture of me working at the hangar loft construction. You know, instead of being the person always taking the pictures. I’m standing on a tall ladder at the highest point of the living room, sealing any gaps to complete our vapor barrier between the home and hangar. A few minutes earlier, our delivery guy came in the hangar shouting, “Delivery from Malyasia!” I zipped down the ladder, around the corner, and down the stairs… all while carrying my caulking gun. I forgot to set it down! Also almost tripped on the neighbor’s cat. (How did she get in here?)

The No New Clothes Challenge Begins to Change

You might recall the adventure I began in May 2009. I was feeling frustrated with the clothing industry and myself.

So I went on strike. I told Martin, “We’re not buying any clothes for the next three months.”

The No New Clothes Challenge snowballed into something that went on for well over two years. It brought some of the greatest changes in my life, and most of them had nothing to do with the actual fabric itself. I hope these discoveries can help you, too.

Baby Shoes : Handmade and Local

I guess you could say I’ve been thinking a lot about footwear these days. Our recent discussion on handmade and domestically made socks kicked it off. Then I was thinking about shoes. Then baby shoes…

I think it’s the cold weather. I want warm everything. For everyone!
