Bravery in Building
There is a little whisper that tells me to write about writing in handmade journals or embracing a life of less stuff and more adventure. That whisper blows out like a little candle by a breeze. All I can think about are the dreams for tomorrow that we are building more and more each day. We’re finally making it happen!

“Now I have the bravery to do fine things.” – Gabriela Sabatini, former professional tennis player

Where do you need more bravery, more fearlessness?

Oh, Katy, this is so exciting! I don’t blame you at all for being single minded these days. Keep the pictures and reports coming. Sharing your dream and watching it grow is exciting for me too.

The place is really coming along, and it looks great. I, too, have a dream of someday having a place of my own to live. Keep up the good work!

I am so happy for you! Your dreams are coming to fruition! Can’t wait to you tell us you are moving out of the tire house.

Wow! Awesome progress! It is looking so much more real now. It has been fun watching the progress you are making on your new home!!

These updates are so exciting! Loving the pictures.
So how long until the hangar house is warmer than the tire house?
Have you & Martin decided at what point you’ll move from the tire house? (Like, does it have to be 100% complete, or are you so anxious to get out of the tire house that you’ll move as soon as you can and live with the building mess?)
Keep the updates coming. We’re cheering you on!

Heather, since we won’t be heating the WHOLE hangar to a warmer temperature, the hangar house won’t be a “natural living temperature” until it’s completely closed off from the rest of the hangar and the heating system is installed.
We’ll probably move in before it’s 100% complete. But after living in a small space while remodeling in Germany, we certainly know that it’s so much easier/more efficient/faster to live in a separate space.
Hope that answers your questions!

i have a “cart before the horse” question for you: are you going to decorate the exterior of the hangar house (but interior of the hangar)? if so, what’ve you got in mind?
January 27th, 2012 at 6:10 pm
Amy, we haven’t talked about the exterior of our house that is the hangar interior. I’d like to leave the beam exposed, probably texture and paint the wall, and add some of the old posters we took down. Simple and clean… that’s eventually our goal for the whole place. Eventually!
Good question :)

i like it! simple and clean is a great theme to hold throughout all aspects of the home and life in general! plus reusing items like posters and things will keep it inexpensive (and green) too! good thinking!

Two questions- What is under your house? There are doors under it but I don’t think you’ve taken pictures or told us. IF you have just point me to the proper post. Have you done a New Home Journal? Library pockets for paint chips and swatches of fabric, lists of supplies to buy, a page for what it was like seeing it for the first time, etc?

Love seeing how it’s progressing. So freaking exciting! stay warm!

Rose, beneath the home are a public bathroom, office, and a work room. Haven’t been messing with those too much just yet.
I do have a home journal:

It’s got pockets and labels for things like paint samples. It also has prompts for documenting how you felt when you first saw the place, how you knew it would be “home”, and all the ways you make it home and spend your daily lives. (I love this book!)
