The Windows are In!
Remember when we were brainstorming how we wanted the windows to look in our loft in the back of the airplane hangar?

Somehow, deep in our hearts, we just knew it would be awesome.

Maybe you couldn’t quite envision it like we could when we sprayed the walls with black paint.

That’s okay! We don’t have to envision any longer.

The old framing that used to house a pilot training room went down. The saws-all came out. And over a course of several days, the windows came in.

Would you like to see, too?

Every time I walk into the hangar now, I feel it. I feel like this space is actually becoming home.

And it’s a home we cannot wait to move into!
You’ll come visit, right? ;)

Wow–how exciting and just gorgeous!!! I am coming to visit!
Did you buy any new socks? If there is a Marshall’s in your area, they have some at this time of year – I have noticed Cabot which are made in the US and a few others.

THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!
It’s beautiful how it opens the space and lets so much light in. And I love how the window lines echo the roofline.
Yes, I’ll come visit. Twist my arm!

I love them! So much light, and as Jane said it really opens up the space.

I think you picked just the right window layout! I’ve been lurking around here for months, and with the windows I can finally *see* a home rather than a building when I look at your photos. So exciting!

Wow! That really makes a huge difference. Beautiful windows letting so much light into your home.

What a difference lots of natural light makes in the room. It makes it seem so much more a space you want to be.
So, what kind of exposure do your new windows have? Is there a view to go with the windows?
And I like that pretty red beam too.

oh my goodness! what an incredible transformation windows came make. Light + more light… they must be double paned due to your low temperatures?
anxiously watching your progress. keep posting pics.

Katie, I am so happy for you! Those windows made my heart jump in my chest. I knew what you were trying to do, and I could visualize it happening, but that still doesn’t compare to seeing it in (internet) real life! Your loft is going to be so cool! I would definitely come visit!

Also, what kind of windows are those? I can’t see too well. Are they like the German style ones with a handle for tilt or open? Or are they American style, which slide up to open? Or are they fixed and unopenable?

It is really coming together! It looks gorgeous! How exciting and satisfying it must be to see your hard work paying off.

Window details…
the windows on the lower far sides both open. They’re on hinges and open like an upside down “V” toward the outside. They have screens.
The windows in the office, bedroom, and bath all slide sideways. They have screens, too.
These two methods are standard in the US. (German windows would have been AWESOME except for the lack of screens in the summers around here.)
They’re plenty warm, so there isn’t a bunch of crazy heat loss like at the tire house. Fantastic. :)
Hope I covered all your questions.

The windows are beautiful. I’d be tempted to hang curtains from the ceiling to make a room and move in!

I love the windows Katie! They invite you to come and stand in front of them and look outside don’t they? It is so much fun to join you in your remodel, thank you for sharing your experience!
