To Do Lists – Dropped

I forgot what this time of year is like for college students. I think Martin did, too. He’s just about finished with some final projects this week. We’re ready to emerge from this craziness!
At the same time, I’m making journals just as fast as I can. (Thank you guys!) My hole puncher makes an enormous KA-THUNK noise. It serves as an incredibly haunting alarm clock if Martin is in bed while I’m working in the early morning. Do you do that? Wake up waaaaay too early sometimes?
Then my hole puncher makes his studies impossible in the living room during the day. KA-THUNK! KA-THUNK! I guess that’s how it goes in a tire house (the rooms don’t actually have a fourth wall). I’m making my schedule match his out-of-the-house schedule.
Last night we paused. Just a little. I wanted to capture it in my Christmas journal.

You know what I love about this tire house? The fireplace. That glowing square is the perfect little fireplace for heating up a little corner of the house. Now we’re adding mugs of hot chocolate, and next, I hope to be writing to you with some of our favorite European cookie recipes. Don’t those seem like the perfect addition on a cozy night?
I can’t wait! Martin really wants to start with this one that’s been passed down in his family and translated just for me to keep passing down…. and passing on!
In the meantime, KA-THUNK. Yep. Martin is out of the house.
What’s your favorite Christmas cookie? Will you drop the to do list for it?

i love this post, katie! made me feel all cozy inside (and wishing i was in front of a fire with my boyfriend instead of sitting at my desk at work!). i absolutely need the “drop the to-do list” reminder every once in awhile!

Is this your primary heat source in the tire house?
We have a wood stove insert, which we LOOOOVE. It’s our first winter with one in this house, although both DH & I grew up with them. Nothing is more relaxing than staring into the fire…the next thing you know, you fell asleep in the chair! Even our cats fall asleep in front of the fire!
It’s 27* here (at 3:30 PM) and I am COLD. I cannot wait to get home and start the night’s fire! 1.5 hrs left of my day!
[The house does have oil heat, also, which is important since we're both not home all day to keep the fire going, but we are attempting to get by without turning it up past 60*. Oil is ridiculously expensive, and since my family is in the wood business, we can get as much "junk wood" as we need for free.]

I love “Country Living” and fireplaces (only thing our house doesn’t have that I wish it did!).
My favorite Christmas cookies? Norwegian butter cookies and molasses cookies. I make them both every year for the neighbors. And actually, I make them year round for my family :)

Rabbit – the house has forced air. I think it’s a bit inefficient for our tastes. We get scraps from the neighbor’s saw mill for the fireplace and light it maybe once a week so far.
And Brrrrr! Finally someone with a bit more cold than we have! (I’m sorry for you today.)
Janna – those cookies sound gooood!

I am jealous of the warm fire place. When I was little, my favorite cookies were Swedish Rosettes, but now I am not too sure. But I sure do LOVE COOKIES!!!

sadly I can’t pause the To-Do list just yet, but thankfully as of Monday next week my to-do list is only cookies! I’m making little bags of cookies for the students in Stefan’s ‘homeroom’ class. I’ll be doing mainly spritz b/c I can quickly KA-THUNK them out with the cookie press, lol! I’m sure I’ll throw in a few chocolate crinkles as well, though – too yummy to forget!
