Return to Old Stomping Grounds
I was invited to dinner at Girl Scout camp Wednesday night. So many stories and memories came rushing to my mind.

- I heard the silly songs I used to sing.
- The doors I put up in 5th or 6th grade (with the help of a contractor for a badge) were banged up, but still there.
- The smells were the same; the dishes we ate off of were the exact same.
- I still drank all of my water before I drank anything else, just like the old days.
- I even heard someone call me my old camp name… and I still knew to answer.
Is there a place close by that you haven’t been to in years? Where is it? Grab your camera. Pick up the phone if you need to. And go for a visit.

I visit my old stomping grounds a few times a year to visit family and old friends. But just recently I took a trip “down memory lane” and drove to the neighborhood where I spent my childhood. Many, many years since I had been there. I parked in front of the house I grew up in and walked to the elementary school from there. Wow, I swear that walk used to be a ten mile hike. Somehow the distance has shrunk to 3 blocks. It was fun to remember the things I used to look at as I walked to school and how much everything has changed. It really brought back memories.

Living overseas, I don’t get to return to my old stomping grounds very often, but it’s always a blessing when I do. I love to walk through my old neighborhood, stop by my old schools, shop in my old favorite stores, and worship at my old church. My parents don’t live there anymore but we still have friends there we love to see. There’s something special about being with people who remember you as a child…who remember you becoming the person you are today.
