Flying over Grand Teton National Park
I fell in love with the state of Wyoming this summer. I did not see it coming. The people have always been the kindest people during the 5-minute glimpses of life that I share with them in gas stations, restaurants, and all those quick-stop kind of places over the years.
For example, Martin and I needed two AA batteries for my headset when we were getting fuel for the plane this past weekend, and the airport didn’t have any. So the woman just pulled the batteries out of the remote control and handed them to us. ”You’ll be needing these,” she said and handed them to us, refusing payment.
But the state’s land itself? Ohh. It just wasn’t capturing my heart like the people were.
Then I saw Grand Teton National Park.
Martin and I flew by on our way to my cousin’s wedding. Suddenly the hearts of the people and the glory of the state’s earth came together in pure bliss. Would you like to see Grand Teton National Park from the sky with me?

Wyoming, you are stunning!
Have any of you ever been to the Grand Tetons? What is your favorite National Park or similar place?
Last summer, we flew over a few other National Parks. Want to see? Here’s Canyon Lands and Arches National Park.

Ah! What a beautiful coincidence! I just spent the last week in Wyoming, and I fell in love as well. The landscape is beautiful, the people are so nice, but most of all, everything seems to be simpler, move slower. I think I want to move there. There is nothing so beautiful as looking up at the stars in a place where you can see for 26 miles around you in every direction. It’s almost the complete antithesis to the city we live in now, and it is so refreshing. Now to convince my man…

OH my gosh! You are killing me with these pictures from the midwest. This is incredible. But it just makes me more desperate to leave the DC craziness behind and get back to nature. I need to move!

Yosemite National Park & Big Sur (coastline of California) are my favorites for tent camping. Although one is mountains + waterfalls and the other mountains + beach they both offer so many places to sit for a meditative period. I love to sit in the quiet of a forest. meadow or the beach and close my eyes. Then try to identify the smells, sounds, and feel of the weather on my face. Heavenly….

Grand Tetons are awesome, but for really getting up in the mountains, Glacier International Peace Park (joint with Canada) is amazing. Sweet shots!

Gorgeous aerial photos of the Tetons, The Tetons are a great park! Gosh, I love so many of our NPs. I love Rocky Mountain NP for scenery, wildlife, flowers and proximity. We have a cabin in the mountains and we can hike into the back side of the park from there which is cool! Last weekend on a dayhike we spotted 29 bighorn sheep on the hillsides!
Yellowstone, during the off seasons– especially in winter for cross-country skiing and solitude (unless 10 million snowmobilers are zooming past :P .) It’s fun being the only person watching Old Faithful erupt on a cold winter night with a sky full of stars.
We camp every spring near Canyonlands and Arches and always manage a few day hikes in the desert. Organ Pipe is an amazing park in the spring too. I love Acadia NP, we honeymooned there and I love that rocky coastline and exploring intertidal areas plus the local seafood is delicious. Backpacking into the Grand Canyon was an awesome experience and we’d love to do a rafting trip through there someday.
A few years ago we stayed at Camp Denali in Denali NP, wow that’s one phenomenal place– the wildlife viewing is world class and the hikes we did were incredible. Camp Denali also had an extremely knowledgeable staff and the accommodations though some think them rustic were immaculate. Our outhouse had a view of Mt McKinley through the heart cutout on the door. Add to that 3 gourmet meals a day and it’s a trip of a lifetime!
Better stop there and get back to the garden. Love Glacier too! Oh, Shenendoah and the Blue Ridge Parkway for biking and what about the Everglades……………………..

Ohh Katie, they are absolutely gorgeous! I was at Yellowstone when I was somewhere around 4 or 5 and I remember Ole Faithful, but not much else! Thank you for sharing your wonderful photos!

I only heard of the Grand Tetons this year, after I looked up Robert Wood. My Dad has a number of his prints, and the ones I like best are of the Grand Tetons. Must ask Dad how he came by them.

We were going to go to Grand Teton a few years ago, but we had another baby instead…
We like Acadia – Maine is an amazing place. We have also been to Shenandoah, but we didn’t get to see as much of that because of the ages the kids were then.

How beautiful! Every now and then I think about what it would be like to move out west …

oh so glad I scrolled down further! (this is my first time to your blog and I’m loving it!) I lived in Jackson, WY (at the foot of the tetons) for two years and absolutely feel in love with the place. It is one of the most enchanting and special places I’ve ever lived. Are you living near Jackson now?

Wow those are gorgeous photos! It makes me want to fly over too. :) We have lovely mountains in my state, but I haven’t seen them from above. What a fun perspective you got to have.

I spent a summer working in Yellowstone many years ago. Because I was there for the whole summer I had several opportunities to Go to Jackson Hole. The first time I saw the Tetons…it just took my breath away. As far as my favorites Yellowstone is one because of it’s unique thermal features. I cried when I saw the Grand Canyon it was so beautiful. I think this whole country has all sorts of beautiful places it’s hard to pick just one. I enjoyed seeing the Tetons from the air though. My husband and I went to Alaska last summer and took a floatplane trip in Ketchikan. It was awesome. So much beauty everywhere.

Wow, Katie! That is breathtaking! I have never been to the Grand Tetons, but your photos certainly make me want to!

My fiance and I are honeymooning in the Tetons in t-minus 33 days. As I’m currently employed with the National Park Service, we’re tossing around ideas of calling the mountain west a future home…
