Pioneer Homes in the Mountains
Summer is always a little slow to come our way in the mountains. The mountains still have snow, and lilacs are just starting to bloom. I was so touched by the different summer homes and old tack houses on our hike this weekend.
I wonder what it would be like to live on this old dirt road tucked in the mountains.

When bucks shed their antlers in the fall, a lot of people like to decorate with them. All the white on the side of this building are antlers. It’s so rustic and charming.

This little building has siding made of old license plates.

And there’s nothing more exciting than discovering a country swing set when you’re a kid. This one is right along the creek. Who wants to stay right here with me all day?

I cannot wait for next Saturday when we slip into the mountains again. It’s Independence Day weekend in the US. Where will you spend it?

I didn’t know bucks shed their antlers – I always figured people who hung them up like that were hunters and had killed them. No plans yet for our Fourth of July here, but I heard that the Tour de France will be passing through Brussels, so I might try to check that out. Happy Summer!

Wow, I love the license plate siding! What a clever idea.
I will be spending the 4th of July with my sister and family at a mountain lake! We will be making homemade marshmallows and graham crackers for smores. We will also go hiking, fishing, and canoeing! I am so excited!

I would love to live off the beaten path and have some land like that someday. My family will be spending the 4th weekend at my folks house in Rochester, MN. The only county in MN, by the way, that doesn’t have a lake in it. And there are over 10,000 in the state!

We will go to my in-laws for a get together on Saturday and then on Sunday there is a concert in the park. The band plays your standard patriotic and classical mix and ends with the 1812 Overture with real cannons. Then there are fireworks at the end. The kids love the cannons and we all enjoy a picnic in the park and a nice concert.
Oh, and I’ll join you on the swings. There is nothing like a good swinging to put a pep in your step. Especially if there is a view like that.

What beautiful view. I wish I could be there once a week and go hike.

I love the license plate house and the swings! Brought back childhood memories for a second!:)
I’ll be in the Dominican Republic for the 4th with my German boyfriend; the resort is throwing a huge bash I hear and he’ll get to see Americans go nuts. “Yay.” Haha!:)

I love, love, love Colorado scenery (at least I assume that’s where you are). I’m so blessed to live here. It’s kind of funny to think that you’re here now. I’m glad it hasn’t been as much culture shock this time. I hope you enjoy your time here. If you’re anywhere near Colorado Springs, you should look us up. :-)
