The Decluttering Project : Under the Bed
There were no monsters when I peeked under the bed on Monday evening. But man oh man, those dust bunnies were surely planning an attack at any moment. Who let them down there in the first place? Decluttering under our beds was certainly not on the schedule for The Decluttering Project. So what’s going on?
I’m hoping onto the computer super late today to ask you to take a peek. What kind of clutter is hiding under your bed?
Under our beds is easily a catch-all place for odds and ends, and no one ever says, “Boy! I can’t wait to sort my stuff and organize under the bed. Wheeee!”
So it’s not going to be very fun today, folks. Grab a dust mask. We’re going in.
You may just need to vacuum. There might be clutter.

In our guest room, we keep luggage under the bed. In our bedroom, we keep our ‘paint clothes’ under the bed. We wanted them somewhere we could always find them but we didn’t want to look at them in our closet. So, whenever I’m painting or gardening or my husband is working on the house, we just grab the pants and shirt from under the bed. We wash them before we put them back down there and it works perfect for us. I also sweep under the beds when I clean the floors of the rooms, so I don’t have anything to do underneath the bed. Which is just as well, I can spend the time decluttering my stationery, because I still haven’t done that yet :)

oh yes, it’s a dust bunny den down there! I actually have to do that today, but I’m trying to pawn it off on Stefan b/c I ‘need’ to work on the kitchen… LOL! I really hate getting way down on my hands and knees and getting between the bed and the wall to push the vacuum under there! =P

OK……I am in good shape with this challenge. Daughter Alex has a platform bed and nothing can go under hers. Under my side of the bed is a piece of luggage that can’t fit in the bottom of one of two linen closets that store all other bags and backpacks. Under Dave’s side is his shoes and one plastic underbed bin full of stuff and I dusted it recently. :)

Timely post! Last night I vacuumed under my bed; I found lots of dust bunnies. Then I mopped the wood floors to get every bit of dust. We don’t store anything under the bed because I just don’t like it. Now, in my sons’ room, there are tons of toys under there. I’m going under!

YAY! An easy day. The only thing under my beds are two slide out drawers with shoes in them. Last night for some reason, I couldn’t go to bed until I pulled them out, swept, and took out all the shoes I haven’t worn(and the ones that are super cute in the am and become instruments of torture in less than 1 hour). They are all going to be donated
So I’m going to work on the refrigerator today.

You make a mistake, at germany, thats called a “Staubmaus” and if you have more then one “Staubmäuse” – dust mice, not dust bunnys. ;)

Our old bed was directly on the floor (on top of its box spring, of course), but that was a great way to avoid dust bunnies! Lol. Our new bed is on top of a homemade bed frame and has a bed skirt over it, and hasn’t gathered one dust bunny yet. So, I think it is the bed skirt that is helping, just because everything else gathers plenty of dust and DOG HAIR. Three cheers for bed skirts!

My bed has my shoes under it and two bins that hold my sweaters and my gardening clothes, but nothing that belongs to my honey – I’ll have to ponder that later. The kids beds have toy bins under them. My bed has plenty of dust bunnies (blush) but not the kids’ beds – you’d be amazed at the amount of time they spend under the beds, playing caves and dungeons and I don’t know what.

“What kind of clutter is hiding under your bed?”
None. Because I really hate to see thing under the bed or on the furniture like Schrank and on the top some boxes…but my desk is really a mess!
I have two cats, so cleaning every corner + under the bed at least twice a week is must.

Once a year or so we totally take the bed apart, wash the floor, vacuum the box spring and the mattress, wipe down the bed frame, baseboards, etc. So at least once a year we are totally dust-free! The rest of the year under the bed gets an occasional swoop with the swiffer.

cute! In German, they’re literally translated to “dust mice”. You’re all kicking butt, I have to say! Whew. On to the next project…. what shall we attack?!

Wahoo, I liked this one :) mostly because we’ve only been in this apartment for about 6 months so it wasn’t so bad! I keep my off-season shoes under the bed, and I went through them all to decide what doesn’t get to stick around for another season. Feels good!

loving your site.
no clutter under our bed – and the little one’s mattress is directly on the floor, so i’m good…for the moment.
we also live simply, in a 1000 sq. ft. home. not as small as yours, but tiny compared to most in this part of the world.

I put winter clothes under the bed in plastic containers and some nylon luggage that flattens out; also extra pillows. Blankets covered in plastic bags can be stored there too.
