Inspiring Links : Bloggers Finding Love Where They Are
My dreams are all in German now. It started about a month ago.
I was kind of shocked to wake up that first morning. Everything seemed so natural, like dreaming in a foreign language is something we all do every night.
Now don’t get too excited. Because in my dreams? I am not speaking German. In fact, I’m downright refusing. In my dreams, Martin is speaking in German. He no longer speaks in English to me. In fact, he’s talking 5x as much in my dreams as he ever has before. (That’s how I know it’s a dream!)
Then we wake up, say, “Hello” and “Good Morning,” and the German communication between us never really gets going. I’m okay with that. If we were trying to start off the morning in German, I would be late for absolutely everything. I would run out of time and never get to write to all of you (my German is soooo slow and ridiculous sounding!)
I thought it might be fun to poke around the web with you a little bit today. There are some women out there with some fabulous thoughts. Shall we go take a visit? Here we go…

1. Instead of ditching her unwanted art and craft supplies, SimpleSavvy started a vintage and recycled craft supply shop. I think it’s brilliant.
2. Another brilliant idea comes from The Borrowed Abode. She had some beloved items that she just knew she needed to part with. It’s hard to say goodbye to sentimental things, you know? But if you’re a blogger, you might just love this idea. She gave one beloved item away on her blog with plans for more.
3. The coffee pot at Remodeling This Life’s house gave up. Her husband pulled out the french press, and now they’re really looking at the question of convenience at the expense of value and quality.
4. Keeper of the Home pulled together some recipes for natural beauty products you can make at home.
5. A Lil Welsh Rarebit was one of the very first readers on Making This Home, and I cannot resist the opportunity to wish her an enormous congratulations on the new baby boy!
6. And finally, way back in February I was interviewed on Almost Frugal about what frugality means to me. Somehow, I mentioned it on Twitter and completely forgot to tell all of you. So you can check that out if you’d like.

So there you have it!
Martin and I have been snapping photos of our daily life to insert into our Love Where We Live journal (still have some in the shop!). I cannot believe how much fun documenting our home and Berlin has been – for both of us!
Have you found any inspiring articles online? (Feel free to include one from your own blog!) Or how are you coming with your own home journal? Aren’t they a blast?!

Thanks for the link, Katie! Have you always had those little splashes of red in your kitchen or is that new? I love the pic.

Thanks for the link love! And I simply adore that picture of you cooking in your kitchen. It’s so tiny! You always have pictures of your kitchen sans people, but with you in it, we can see just how much space there is. The cooking and reading at the same time — is that something you do every day? I love it.

LOL! I dream in German sometimes, but I have no idea what’s being said. I think it comes from listening to the DJ’s on the radio. I wonder if the German I dream actually makes sense.

One of my favorite blogs is dig this chick: http://www.digthischickmt.com/ She lives in Montana and originally wrote mostly about gardening but now with 2 kids there’s obviously more to write about and a lot of wonderful photos!

Diana – you sure know how to make a girl homesick for the states. Thank you for the link.
Mom in High Heels – I’ve been wondering the same thing about the German I’m “hearing” in my sleep. Is it just that I know Martin is speaking in German? Or am I actually understanding?

Ahh, I have a lot of blog catching up to do! I am always fascinated by what language people dream in when they are in other countries.

Hi Katie,
Fun post and even funner (!) kitchen. During my weekend browsing I came across a great post by Fake Plastic fish at http://fakeplasticfish.com/2008/03/update-3-soap-and-shampoo-and-deodorant/. It’s from 2008, but worth the read. I’m focused on minimizing my belongings and living simply in Las Vegas, which can cause a girl to work up a sweat! I’d categorize myself as “semi-green,” but this post about using baking soda as deodorant just intrigued me. You and your readers will be the first to know that I did a little experiment over the weekend and THIS STUFF WORKS! It works better than any $3 or $13 stick of chemical-filled deodorant I’ve purchased in my lifetime. I am stunned! I don’t consider myself the type of person who would go to this extreme (I like to wear pearls several times a week, ha!) but hey, stranger things have happened. It just proves that any of us can make positive changes to help ourselves, the environment…and our armpits :)

Ahh – thanks for the link, SimplyMe. We’re on a few similar missions sans access to American products, so the link is super interesting.
We’ve been adding little splashes throughout the house. More photos to come, aye? The book propped open is one of our all-time favorite vegetarian cookbooks:

There are a few site people should go when they need some advice when finding out what love is all about. You must believe in magic when trying to find love. I think one can will magic on to your relation. I also agree on letting everything go. Whatever past relations you had let it go. Any bad memories let it go. When you say something that is very meaningful, it must be true, because your partner is going to defined the relationship thew actions and words.

Hey, thanks for the mention! We just moved to our new home and I’ve been without internet at home for almost 2 weeks now, so the blog’s been on hold. But once it’s up and running again I’m definitely going to incorporate more giveaways of stuff I need to get rid of :)
Now it’s time for me to pop over and score one of your home journals for my best friend, who just bought a house and is getting married!

I didn’t want to ask on the blog itself, but what kind of coffee pot is more convenient than a French press? Many households in Australia have a “plunger” as the French press is called here, and lately there’s been a trend to home espresso machines for the real addicts. People of Italian descent stick to the stovetop coffee pots, but the one at Remodeling This Life doesn’t seem to be any of these.

Chookie – I’m not a coffee drinker, so I don’t know the answer. My dad uses a french press with one serving. When guests come over, he uses a coffee machine. Meanwhile my grandmother will forever use the stovetop just like you said. (and that’s the extend of my coffee knowledge!) I just liked the idea she expressed about how we all have different ideas of what is needed in a simpler life. Good question!

I’m a tea drinker in the main, or I suppose I’d know the answer!
