Splendor is Living with Less (and Loving It!)
It’s about time I shared one of my favorite songs with you.
For those of you who remember this post when I introduced you to our all-time favorite band – and yes, my guy and I both rank this band as #1 in our book – this little clip again features Pink Martini.
Folks call this band a little orchestra from Portland, Oregon. They pull music from all types of classic films and international styles. But today I don’t want to gush about their music. I actually just want you to hear their words. The words in the youtube song below really seem to fit the ideas that you and I seem to have about life and stuff.
So just pause for a moment. Enjoy Pink Martin’s new rendition of Splendor in the Grass because it’s nice to know that not everyone believes that bigger and more is better:
Do you know of Pink Martini? Or what is your favorite/most inspiring band or piece of music? We’re always on the lookout for great new discoveries.

Great song… I’ll have to check out some of their other music. I found it only slightly ironic that a song about simplicity would be backed by a full orchestra playing Tchaikovsky… but it is lovely to listen to! Have you ever heard Basia Bulat? Thanks to you, Pink Martini is now a favorite band of me and my husband. Even our kids like them! Oh, and the song from Sesame Street on this album brings back fond memories from my childhood! Go Luis!

Thanks for the links, ladies. They are open and waiting!
I would say that while it seems more complicated to have an orchestra or large group performing, they band does keep simple in one area – all of their music comes from traditional instruments. Today technology really seems to incorporate a lot of artificial and computer-generated sounds and effects. So is that a stretch? I think I am beyond in love with the simple beauty of instruments – so could be bias!

Well this will make a girl stop lurking! I have loved Pink Martini for years! I was introduced to them with “Hang on Little Tomato.” My brother-in-law is getting married the day before they play in Texas and I am almost as excited to see them live the first time as I am for the wedding!

I have favorites in each category: the aria “Un Bel Di, Vedremo” Madame Butterfly (the opera). “Welcome to the Future” (Brad Paisley, country singer) and “Life Less Ordinary” (Carbon Leaf).
Oh my gosh, just listened to Pink Martini. How awesome that there is the orchestra playing the Tchaik Piano Concerto??? Thanks!
