Refrigerator Iced Tea
By now you all probably know how much we drink tea around here. We can’t get enough of the stuff. Then summer rolls in. Drinking hot tea in 90 degree weather is a fast ticket to feeling like a baked potato. Thank goodness we’ve got a big American fridge that’s twice the size of our fridge in Germany because in addition to the groceries we get in town only every other week, we’ve filled our fridge with jars like this:
To make your own super-simple iced tea, drop a tea bag in a large container of water before you go to bed. Stick the jar in the fridge. Then pull out the tea bag in the morning. That’s it. You’re set for cool, cheap refreshments all day long. Plus it’s one that’s actually good for you!
Favorites at our house include mint green tea and green tea. I hate hot green tea, so if you’ve got teas you just don’t like hot, try them cold. It’s the perfect way to clear your stash.
If you have any other cool-down tricks up your sleeves, please spill (the suggestions, not the cooling equipment).

we’re suckers for mint tea – green or black. I mean it. We have milk, water, and mint tea in the fridge in the summers and that’s pretty much it for drinks.
About once a month I make a pitcher of Crystal Light which is my favorite ‘bad’ thing and my husband tells me “it tastes like chemistry and can’t be good for you”. we all have our vices.

Before reading the text, that so looks like the kind of jar you would take to the doctor, with the corresponding fluid inside it.

I’m currently a sucker for popsicles…

That’s a great suggestion. I think I’m going to try it tonight – I do love mint tea. :)

I’ve been missing my southern iced tea here in Belgium, but I’m going to try this right now. Next time I’m in the states, I’m going to have to pick up some regular tea bags – I think I’ve only got Jasmine with me here.

I love black tea, but hate iced tea with a passion. It just tastes wrong. My family all drinks gallons of iced tea, but I cannot stand it.
During the summer, I love popsicles. We make them with natural juice or lemonade and they are so yummy. In fact I just ate one before I checked your blog. :)

I’m going to try this tonight Katie. Great idea! I’m trying to drink more water and this would fit the bill!

Ummmm, Ooooook. That is the weakest T I’ve seen. How about you just make it on the stove and stick it in the fridge before you go to bed. I am from Mississippi, maybe I am just slow.

Hi Tony. Perhaps you’re thinking of a black tea. This tea is an herbal tea, so I’d actually venture to say it’s pretty dark for an herbal tea. We make a lot of green tea, too; it’s only tinted just slightly.

I’m curious if this could be a quick way to make sweet tea. I love sweet tea but boiling the water and letting the tea bags steep with a cup of (fake) sugar takes some time and remembering. It would be way easier to just let the sugar and tea bags steep in the fridge over night.

I would have never thought that you could brew tea in the fridge. I love learning new tips like this. Thanks! I’m going to share this with a guy at work who always has a bottle of green tea. This is so much cheaper and healthier!
