Kim, the tip on oatmeal raisin is good to know! Thank you for it and your other nuggets. We haven't had any troubles with American cookies for teens and younger - sounds like your story is the same. :)

Hi loved your blog. I found a few Germans who like the cookies and request them as birthday presents. I have braun zucker at my store. Baking soda is Natron, usally available at the supermarket, someone told me you could get it at the Apotheke but you have to ask for speisenatron. I don't know if it's true. Our REWE sells Arm and Hammer baking soda too. I've also made peanut butter kiss cookies, they didn't go over well (at work) either. They did great at the kindergarten though. Another cookie that goes over well is Oatmeal Raisin, although because of the cinnamon they are thought of as a christmas cookie.

I am an exchange student from the US living in Germany for the year and I have been looking for a good chocolate chip recipe to make over here so i can share my favorite treat with everyone. I live in a small town and found the normal cookie recipe hard to recreate here. Now thanks to the german one you posted i am planning on making these amazing cookies this week for everyone! Thanks

that's great!! i lived in sweden for a while and had to recreate my oatmeal choc chip cookies.
i came across something called brun farin which is similar to brown sugar... not sure if you have it in germany? the other thing i used for baking soda is bikarbonat... but i'm sure you've already heard of that too... i would brought lots of choc chips w/me from the states to bake the cookies :) when i offered them to the neighbors though, they gladly took them and would ask for the recipe, surprised the germans haven't caught on! ha

I'm so glad I found your blog and your recipe! I love chocolate chip cookies and hated not being able to recreate them the gooey way in germany! I'll have to try it soon!
I'm sorry they neglected your cookies for Berliners that probably weren't even good! Don't get discouraged by things like those. Living in a different culture can be quite an experience, right?
