Inspired Giveaway: Recycled Painted Art
Our house is completely out of cardboard now. The pasta is in jars. The boxes from our 36 square foot kitchen remodel are gone. I strive to reuse resources in my artwork for the added challenge and inspiration. Plus it just makes sense to use things we already have, right? These hand painted pieces are ready to frame or mail as postcards, and we’re wanting to share a piece of the results with all of you.

Katie I love these cards – so cute and crafty! What a great post. I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one room in my house. I’m currently obsessed with my guest room, but I’m posting about that on Friday – so I won’t detail it out now since all the photos will be up later this week! And coincidentally my post today is all about my guest bathroom, which I also love – so I won’t detail that one here either… If I had to say what it is I love about my house, it would simply be that all the rooms feel comfy, cozy, and just like home. There are no ‘formal’ spaces; we use all the rooms daily – and I love that. My favorite aspect of our house would have to be our photos.
My husband is a great photographer, and we’ve scattered his work all around our house. I love looking at our pictures and remembering all the great trips we took BC (before child) — and I’m looking forward to telling Fiona all about them when she’s older. We’ve begun replacing some of his scenic photos with pictures of Fiona, of course. And I just love looking at these even more, and seeing how she’s developing with each week and month as she grows up right before my eyes.

These prints are amazing! I would love, love, love to own them. If the giveaway gods do not smile upon me, perhaps the lime green one will find itself for sale somewhere my little hands can get a hold of it?! :)
My favorite place in my home is our combo’d living/crafting area. We live in a small apartment though I know you’ve got a better idea of ‘small’ living :) But we’ve worked really hard on the space to make it both cozy and functional. We’re from New Orleans originally and post-Katrina, this is our first apartment that has really felt like home. I’m so in love with it, despite it’s lack of space and storage, that for the first time in three years, I adore coming home and staying home. It’s the best feeling in the world.

My favourite place in my home is my bedroom. Last fall I stripped the wallpaper and tore out all the carpet. White walls and scarred hardwood floors: these are a perfect blank blank canvas for the rest of my room. My queen size bed is festooned with a down comforter, a quilt I made for myself, and many pillows. Mona the sock monkey, Gerschwin the talkative frog, and Willy the penguin all share the room with me. A bookshelf with my favourite books and journals and a sideboard with all my gadgets: printer, laptop, TV, DVD player, and iPod. My clothes live in the basement so my closet is full of quilting supplies and a corkboard laden with my jewelry most of it homemade.
I love my room!

I love my yard. It’s part of my home, right? I love having an outdoor space where we can play and live and grow food. In the summer there’s patio furniture and a wading pool and fresh berries. I think everyone’s in a better mood outside. You can forget about the mess on the floor and the computer and TV and just be. For a long time our yard was pretty bad, and we just cleaned it up last spring. Looking out my window still makes me smile.

My favorite room in my house is my daughters’ room. It is a beautiful yellow and is just a happy place. I am working on their pink curtains and am so excited to add them to the room! My favorite aspect of our house is in the downstairs our outside wall (we live in a row home on the end) is brick on the inside and outside. It looks so neat because it is really old!
The prints are lovely!

My favorite room is my living room. It has five south facing windows, so it is generally the brightest and warmest room in the house! I love the sunshine!
January 26th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I have you in my bloglist… don’t know if that counts but I read your blog almost every day!
January 26th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Our house is very small so I am always feeling cramped. I think my favorite room would be my kitchen. It’s very large and open with the family room. I feel this is the room where I can be and no one is in my ‘bubble’. I love my patio too. We live in Oregon where it rains a lot and we built a wood awning over it and it is so nice to be out there all times of the year. My daughter has her sandbox under there and it stays out of the weather.
Thanks for the chance. Super cute cards.

I saw your blog when I read your comment on another. Your artwork is great! My favorite room in my home is my kitchen. I could put a bed in there and never leave! I live in a rented home in Belgium. My husband’s company relocated us and we feel extremely lucky to have found this house. It is brand new and built with expats in mind. I actually have closets! It is odd to live in a house that needs no repair and no maintenance. It enables us to truly enjoy the new environment we now live in.
I would love to win one of your creations. I have nothing to offer you except a great blog owned by a friend. She is a vegan and posts the coolest recipes… http://www.vegancowgirl.blogspot.com Enjoy!

My most favorite spot in my house? Hmmm, I think it would be my “office/studio”, if that’s what you call it. Basically I live under the stairs :) It has all my art and jewelry making materials around me, but I am also in the living room, so I can still be close to my family when I am creating. I’ve got paints, pencils, pliers, wire, beads, paper (loads of paper!), books and my cat all around me. I would still like to have my own room to myself, but for right now, this is my favorite place to be!

My fave spot in my home is my reading corner. I have an overstuffed chair that I love to curl up in to read. It’s in front of my floor to ceiling bookcases and there’s a window I can look out and watch the snow fall. It’s my favorite place in the whole house. Thanks for the giveaway.
January 26th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
We have an open plan home, with kitchen, dining room and living room all situated around a brick fireplace. My favourite place to be is in our living space in the afternoon, when the sun shines in and fills the whole place with light. Even better when it’s a freezing winter afternoon, and I have a toasty fire going, and some knitting in my hands! :o)

I live in an old cracker box home. I love that it has so much history, but it also needs alot of work. Still, it is cozy and comfortable and I am so happy to live in the home that my father grew up in.

Those are beautiful, what a fun giveaway!
Let’s see. My all-time favorite thing about my home is that it’s filled with my animals! Whenever I pull up my two cats are in the window waiting for me and my dog greets me with a homecoming worth of royalty. I feel so lucky to have them safe and cozy in our little house. They really make it a home!
January 26th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
I love our new nursery. We set it up because we are becoming foster parents and it just makes me happy. We did it on a budget, but I LOVE everything in the room. It’s calming and soothing and warm. Plus, no one lives in there yet, so it’s always clean.
January 26th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Katie,
Such a creative way to reuse materials and celebrate the completion of your project. Congratulations on finishing and being able to fully relax and enjoy.
I’ll be sure to post this great giveaway on on my blog!
January 26th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
we’re surrounded by woods with some clearing around the immediate vacinity of the house. I love to go out to the deck and relax out there. The yard is flanked by two large chestnut trees and its always fun to watch the squirrels gather and nest in the yard. It’s extremely peaceful and relaxing.
I’m having so much fun making friends and blog-hopping again this year.
Thanks for such a generous giveaway! I hope I’m chosen as the lucky winner!!!

The favorite part of my home is the people in it! We’ve moved a lot and it’s taught me that our home is NOT the building, but the family.
January 27th, 2009 at 8:26 am
My favorite place in my home is our dining room. Not only is it the place that the family gathers for meals (favorite times of the day), but there are two sliding glass doors that let in TONS of light all day long. It also has a small couch at one end and a little bookshelf where my son keeps his books. He is almost always sitting in his little rocking chair by the bookshelf, ‘reading’ himself books. I love to find him ‘reading’ (he’s only 16 months).

I have been following your blog on my google reader for a couple weeks now and I love reading about the changes you are making to your home. Also about the differences between America and Germany. My favorite place in my apartment is my bedroom. Particularly, the place where our bed is. The room is set up like a U, and there is a wall that divides half of the room, which on one side is our bed which fits cosily in this nook. Sadly there is not enough room for a bes side stand, but I love how comfy the area is, I feel secure in it.

My favorite spot in the house is my bathtub!

My living room is not traditional by any means. I home school and I have twin toddlers. So instead of a couch and coffee table, I have a ball pit, slide, kid size chairs, oodles of toys and a little corner where my computer is. The babies cause chaos all day and I get to watch them and know they are safe.
January 27th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
My house is tiny but I love it. The best part of it is the 2 porches and the courtyard in back. The front porch is small but it has enough room for aswing and 2 chairs and we can see the river from there. The side porch has a bistro set that is great in the summer to eat dinner. Our courtyard is wonderful to BBQ in. And we also have a little sun room in the back where I like to sit and read. It’s very cosy.

Thanks for doing this! I love them! Great job. My favorite place in my home is my kitchen. I love to turn up the cd player and play worship songs and dance with my kids. And of course, eat! I also love my little sewing area in my dining room. I’ve had lots of fun times in there making stuff for others. Have a great day! Lora

My favorite aspect of my home is the living room, because is very bright.
January 28th, 2009 at 5:49 am
My favourite spot in the house? Probably a tie between the living room and the computer room.
The living room because we’ve got all of our favourite photos of the boys in there. They’re so happy and beautiful and I love looking at them. We also have two caricatures of them that were drawn this summer while at Legoland. They both really capture their personalities!
The computer because my husband has finally put shelves up to hold my immense collection of Eeyores. To sit and use the computer means to be absolutely surrounded by donkeys. It makes me feel happy.

Cute cards! I love my dining room/kitchen area. My husband made our table and we have so many wonderful memories at it…school, holidays, crafts, and dinner every night.

My favorite part of my house is our huge bay window. I love it because we can always see out while we’re eating and it has a huge ledge where you can sit and just look outside at the beauty.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:27 am
My apartment has cinderblock walls and scary carpet, but there is one little corner that brings joy to my heart. It is a cherrywood bookshelf from my grandmother, filled with family photos and a watercolor painting of the temple where my husband and me were married.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:42 am
I love my huge picture glass window in my living room! It lets in so much light and makes everything kind of “airy.” I sure will miss it when we move.

I love my office. It is MY space…my own little sanctuary.

I love my office…it is filled with pictures of people I love, I can play whatever music I like…it is my sanctuary!

I like my bed. It’s comfy and just large enough for me, my husband, and my seven pound cat (who takes up half of it). If I raise my blinds and lay down on the bed, I can gaze at the swaying tree tops (I live in an apartment complex and if I sit up, I’m just staring at another apartment building, so I need to lay down for this illusion.

The room I love most is our bedroom, aside from “those” reasons… It’s the calmest room in our home. Only pictures of us and our journey together so far{no family, or friends, or of our daughter}. No television. It’s the perfect place to rest and clear your head. Plenty of morning light shines in, the cats love it too ;)

I love that our living room is large (compared to the rest of the rooms in our house). It was converted from an attached garage. I love that we can have friends over and our kids can play in the same room with us without getting in the way. Plus when my daughter’s got the wiggle-worms, she can run around without worrying about breaking anything.

What a great idea! I love these cards!!
My favorite room in my house would have to be my scrapbook room! I have two 5-foot folding tables, some shelves, paper racks, a bookcase, a closet full of supplies, two Cricut machines (the original and the Expression), about 15 Cricut cartridges, and so much more….. This room is my getaway – if only I could getaway to it more often! Thank you so much for this opportunity!!!

My favorite aspect of my home is that it’s comfortable. We can put our feet up, I don’t worry about “ruining” anything… it’s easy to live in our home. It isn’t always clean, and it certainly doesn’t look like I’ve got a decorator. But it’s ours, and it’s lovely!
January 29th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
My favorite aspect of my home right now is my crafting room. It is the room you pass through on the way to the master bedroom and the nursery, and it has a huge sliding glass door. In the mornings, the sun shines through it and makes the room so very cheerful. I try and do a lot of my crafting in the morning when the light is nice. Sometimes I take a cup of tea and just sit and watch the valley outside through the doors. It’s lovely. Thank you for such a lovely giveaway–and I love reading your blog, as well.

The favorite aspect of my home would have to be the sense of well-being it instills in strangers and the peace it gives my daughter, since we’ve had a troubled past.

i work so hard to keep our whole home a place that is peaceful and people like to be. right now, my favorite place is my baby’s room. not because of the decorations (which I do like :D), but because of the wonderful memories I am making in there whenever i rock my beautiful girl to sleep.

i love those cards! how cute :)
my favorite aspect of our house is the small little nook of an office that’s tucked underneath the stairs. my husband just put in the desk about a month ago, an old door turned workspace. i have a cute green pendant light hanging, that illuminates the kahki walls into a great green when lit. a brown stripe runs the top, and continues into the next room. graphic cards that i’ve designed, fill a board adding punches of color and character. and to top it off, there’s a floor space heater at my feet to warm me up :) my getaway :)
