Berlin’s Festival of Lights Starts at Our House

Okay, okay.  Maybe I got a little ahead of myself when I painted our door mat last week.  (That happens to you sometimes, too, doesn’t it?)  And so what if the only lights we had in the whole house were two ugly, bare light bulbs dangling in the bathroom and hallway?

Well we found some lights.  They were nothing fancy.  But they definitely hit our budget at 15 and 20 bucks each.  (yeah for clearance bins!)  We had to buy a drill to get through the concrete ceiling, then they were fairly easy to install.  Here’s the 20 buck one.  The 15 buck one has two bulbs in a wave.

Now we’re playing with light bulbs in search of the perfect balance of energy efficiency and immediate illumination.

Yes, I KNOW we’re nerdy.  I know that most people don’t calculate how much it costs per hour to use lightbulb A versus lightbulb B.  But cereal boxes don’t come with puzzles and stories around here.  We have to make up our own breakfast entertainment.

And who knows, maybe next year the City of Berlin will call us and ask for help in the annual Festival of Lights going on right now.  Martin took these awesome photos while I may have been eves dropping on some American tourists.
