Filling Holes: House and (embarrassingly) Face

Sometimes it’s hard to believe how clumsy members of our family are.  Oh sure, the clumsy one is usually me.  I kind of have a tendency to crash my bike on a daily basis.  No, no – I don’t mean out on the streets.  I crash INTO my bike.  When it’s PARKED.  In our hallway.  I have multiple bruises on my midsection that align perfectly with handlebars, and even when I think I’m maneuvering beautifully… wham.

(Note: Add “build bike rack” to the honey-do list.)

But bike “wrecks” quickly became the least of my worries.  When we finished tearing down the kitchen walls, two more death traps appeared on either side of the old doorway.

Doing all of this insanity:

Left us with two of these buggers:

And I don’t even have to tell you, because we all know exactly who would manage to get her foot in one of those things in two seconds flat.  Me.  It’s like they were begging me to step in them.

So Sunday’s top priority became filling those holes.  We mixed up a thick plaster/concrete mix that promised not to crack as it dried.  We don’t need to buy any caution tape now, which is good. ( I don’t know the German word for caution yet.)

Anti-ankle sprain zone:

We also stuffed our faces with this delicious plum cake that I found on Martha Stewart.  Plum cakes are been popping up all over Germany right now, so I thought I’d try making one myself in our cramped but SAFE kitchen.  The only problem was I probably spent ten minutes searching everywhere for “plumb cake”.  I think this remodel is getting to me.
