Hi Katie

We have a washer/dryer in one unit from Miele. There are lots of companies that make them here and they are fairly efficient. Saves space and your sanity...because I personally can't stand crunchy towels that have air dried the entire time!

The light is BEAUTIFUL! We had designer lamps like that in many of our rooms until we moved out of our first apartment here...but that had a lot to do with the ceilings being about 4m high and us not having a ladder to reach up there. As long as they didn't burn out, we were ok. ;)

Definitely get yourself some sort of cabinet for under the sink! You can pick one up rather cheaply at quelle.de although they are a bit small. And a vanity above the sink is another must. Perhaps you can mount a cabinet above the washing machine? Just keep in mind that you'll need to fill any holes in the tile you make when you move out!

Keep up the great work! ;)

Sorry for being so unclear in my post, all. I hadn't seen any stackable washers and dryers here, Katie--so thanks for the heads up. The truth is, I only know of one couple that even has a dryer in Germany. Power is 2-3x as expensive as it is in the US, so since dryers suck up so much energy, most people in Europe go without. Dryers are more like a luxury than a necessity, I guess.

I wish it were easy enough to rearrange the fixtures in our bathroom. But did you see how thick the walls were in our kitchen? Oh MAN! I think we'll try to live with the odd layout in this particular room.

Christina, thanks for the sticker link! That could be really cool.

Hi, Katie. Our last apartment was just a tad bigger than yours now. The bathroom, however, was HUGE! It made no sense. Our bed barely fit into our bedroom, but we had all kinds of extra space in our bathroom. Our new bathroom is so small in comparison. We've had to figure out all kinds of things. We put a closet under the sink, and we plan to buy a few shelves to go above the washing machine. Martin says "Germans don't store their towels in their bathrooms" which kind of irritates me because I thought I could put my pretty new towels on these said shelves. Now, I have to figure out what to do with them once we get them. It just seems to make more sense to put nice towels there than extra rolls of toilet paper. Maybe I can try to bring some more American influence here than just my English and cooking. (Oh, and they do make stackable washer/dryers, but the energy cost of running one may not be worth it.)
