Front Door Damage Control
Our doorway is very plain. Nothing about it screams, “Come on in ya’ll!” Instead, it feels stiff and rigid and warns people to keep away. Do you ever feel this way about a space? It drives me crazy! Our doormat isn’t even warm and inviting. It’s one of those sad things we saw at IKEA and realized we’d better grab. It cost three or four bucks.

So I decided to start poking around. And I’m embarrassed to say that my husband thought that this would be a hoot:
“Look! That’s where the loud, WEIRD Americans live.”
It’s been vetoed. And instead of buying a whole new rug, I’ve decided to get a little crafty while Martin’s away. You can see our much preferred hand-painted doormat here.

Hey, my mom has that second rug!
Haha, just kidding. Can’t wait to see the results!

Way to resist the urge on the buttered-butt mat! Looking forward to your new (classier) creation. I found you on the Bloggers Ornament Exchange List!!

Thanks for the encouragement, Katie and Cathe.
One nice thing about living in Germany is just how impossible it is to get some of those really crazy American products like that rug. I’m sure there are some off-beat rugs here, too, but I wouldn’t have a clue what they’d be saying. Sometimes my lack of German is a good thing. :)

Love your blog and laughed out loud when I saw that rug. Keep the laughs coming.
